Welcome to
Newfield Spring Wood
A beautiful woodland to work in, relax, and be inspired by.
“What a privilege in 2011 to be able to buy this 32 acre, ancient blue bell woodland in the Moss Valley, just 4 miles from Sheffield City Centre. My passion is connecting us all with the natural world, for our own wellbeing and to foster appreciation and care for nature. So my joy is enabling people and groups, particularly those with little access to wild spaces, to become engaged with the wood.”

Volunteering

A wide range of groups and friends have been involved in the management and conservation work on a “work for wellbeing” basis here.
Community Engagement

We welcome groups who would like to engage with the wood for wellbeing, nature connection or conservation.
We are particularly keen to engage young people who have had little contact with nature. The link here gives examples of groups who have or are currently engaged with the wood.
Plans and Surveys

Our aim and vision for the wood as outlined in our management plan is to enhance bio-diversity, build resilience to climate stress at the same time as restoring it as a working woodland with opportunities for education and nature connection. Derbyshire Wild Life Trust has continued to register the woodland as a Local Nature Wildlife Site. Here are examples of the work we have done and the range of surveys undertaken.
Natural Flood Mangement

We’ve been working with Don Catchment Rivers Trust (DCRT) since 2020. It’s been a rewarding partnership. We’ve been hosting monthly joint volunteer days building “leaky dams” and “spilings” across our water courses which slow the flow of water in high rainfall conditions reducing flooding downstream.
